The Master’s Program in Civic and Citizenship Education (S2 PKn) at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta aims to develop professional educators, researchers, and practitioners with advanced competencies in civic education, citizenship studies, and democratic education grounded in Pancasila values and responsive to contemporary global challenges.
Scope of the Program

Foundations of Civic and Citizenship Education
The program emphasizes advanced understanding of civic knowledge, civic skills, and civic dispositions within the framework of Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, and Indonesian democratic values. -
Curriculum Development and Instructional Innovation
Students study curriculum design, learning models, assessment strategies, and instructional innovations for Civic and Citizenship Education at secondary and higher education levels. -
Citizenship, Democracy, and Human Rights
The program explores democratic practices, constitutional values, rule of law, human rights education, and civic responsibility in both national and global contexts. -
Multicultural, Digital, and Global Citizenship
Special attention is given to issues of diversity, multiculturalism, digital citizenship, media literacy, and global citizenship education. -
Educational Policy and Civic Education Governance
Students analyze education policies, curriculum reforms, and governance related to Civic and Citizenship Education at local, national, and international levels. -
Research Methods in Civic and Citizenship Education
The program equips students with qualitative and quantitative research skills to conduct applied research and produce academically sound and socially relevant studies. -
Community-Based Civic Education
The program encourages community engagement through service learning, civic projects, and partnerships that promote social cohesion and civic participation.
