Field Practice
Primary tabs
The Department of Civic Education (PKn) at UNY has two field-based learning activities that are an important part of the curriculum, namely School Field Practice (SFP) and Community Services (CS). SFP is designed to provide opportunities for students to directly apply their pedagogical, professional, social, and personal competencies in schools or partner institutions. Through this activity, students not only observe the learning process, but also engage in teaching practices, educational administration, and interactions with school communities. SFP bridges the gap between classroom theory and practical reality in the field, providing students with authentic experiences as future PPKn educators.
Meanwhile, CS is a community service activity that places students in villages or specific areas to work with the community in designing and implementing empowerment programs. For UNY Civic Education students, CS is a means of applying the values of citizenship, social participation, and community leadership. Through this program, students not only learn to understand the social dynamics of the community, but also hone their collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills. With the existence of SFP and CS, the Department of Civic Education at UNY affirms its commitment to producing competent, characterful graduates who are ready to contribute to society.

The Community Services and School Field Practice courses are compulsory for all students in the Department of Civic Education at UNY because both provide important skills that will be useful for their future lives in society. Through PKL, students learn to understand the realities of the world of education, practice interacting professionally, and apply civic theory in a real-world context. Meanwhile, Community Services courses fosters social awareness and the ability to contribute through community-based empowerment activities. The combination of experiences from these two courses makes students more mature, characterful, and equipped with the social and leadership skills essential for active participation as responsible citizens.
