The keynote speaker for this academic forum was Professor Wiel Veugelers, a professor from the University of Humanistic Studies in Utrecht, the Netherlands. He shared his profound insights on Civic Education and broadened the horizons of the public lecture participants. Linda Dalimin (a master's student in Civic Education at UNY) had the opportunity to moderate the public lecture and serve as an interpreter between the speaker and the participants.
‘Thank you to Professor Wiel Veugelers for sharing his insights and deep understanding of civic education,’ said Prof. Dr. Sunarso, M.Si in his speech. He also expressed his hope that similar events would continue to be held to enrich knowledge and increase understanding of the role of civic education in shaping the nation's character. The atmosphere during the event was very lively and enthusiastic. Participants were enthusiastic about attending the public lecture and participating in discussions. The exchange of ideas and views on Civic Education made the atmosphere even more lively.
One of the highlights of this event was the launch of the book ‘Theory and Practice of Civic Education’ written by Prof. Wiel Veugelers and Dr. Samsuri, S.Pd., M.Ag from Yogyakarta State University. The book launch was the highlight of the event and was enthusiastically welcomed by participants as the authors gave free copies of the book to two participants who asked the best questions.
This activity demonstrates the commitment of the Department of Civic Education and Law (PKnH) at UNY to improving the quality of education and understanding of civic values within its academic community. With the implementation of this activity, it is hoped that more parties will be inspired to contribute to the development of Civic Education in Indonesia.
